Hermes Agent

Open-source agent from Nous Research that runs in your terminal. Step-by-step setup with Laras Router.

On this page

This guide connects Hermes Agent to Laras Router. Every step was checked against the Hermes Agent documentation.

You need an API key (lr_live_…) and a topped-up balance. New to Laras Router? Start with the Quickstart.

Set up

Set your API key

Put your key in an environment variable, or add the same line without export to ~/.hermes/.env.

Shell
export LARAS_API_KEY="lr_live_your_key_here"

Configure the endpoint

In ~/.hermes/config.yaml, set provider to custom and use the base URL ending in /v1.

config.yaml
model:
  default: deepseek-flash
  provider: custom
  base_url: https://api.larasrouter.com/v1
  key_env: LARAS_API_KEY
  context_length: 1000000

Or use the setup wizard

Or run hermes model, choose Custom endpoint (self-hosted / VLLM / etc.), and enter the same base URL, key, and model.

Start Hermes

Start Hermes with hermes.

Good to know

  • Hermes needs at least 64,000 tokens of context. context_length states the full 1,000,000-token window so Hermes does not have to detect it.
  • OPENAI_BASE_URL does not configure a custom endpoint in Hermes. Use config.yaml.

Settings and screens can change between versions. If something looks different, check the Hermes Agent documentation. For other tools, see all integrations.
